Newbiggin Children Find Sea-legs In Lifeboat Fundraiser

22 February 2007

Little ones from a Wansbeck first school recently found their sea-legs in a special fundraiser for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Mrs Anne Carter, Headteacher at Windsor First School, said: “We wanted our pupils to learn about being a member of the community, and helping out an important local cause. The children really enjoyed raising money for the RNLI, and had fun along the way.”

During a fundraiser day at Windsor First School a volunteer from the RNLI visited to show youngsters how to keep safe by the sea.

Pupils from dressed up as sailors and pirates and were allowed to wear trainers in a fundraising day at the school. Nearly £130 was raised for the lifesaving charity.

Children also got to see what their efforts were helping to pay for, with a special trip to the lifeboat station for a look around. Many of the youngsters came away enthusiastic about volunteering when they get older.
